Cattle Show
The Essex Agricultural Society had its first Cattle show in Topsfield in 1818. The Cattle show traveled to a variety of towns in Essex county from 1818 to 1894, but in 1820 the Society had their first Cattle show at the Topsfield Fair. The idea for having a cattle showing at the fair emerged from the cattle shows that had been on display across Essex County. Since then, there has been a cattle show every year. It’s always a fun competition to judge and there are a number of ways to win if you enter your cattle. There are 2 sections – Fitting and Showmanship with beef and dairy subcategories for each of the sections where there are Novice, Junior, and Senior winner for each of the subcategories in each section.
