George & Mary Ann Hoomis

George and Mary Ann’s involvement with the Fair began 20 years ago when they brought a 150 pound prize-winning hybrid to the Giant Pumpkin weigh-off. That was like bringing a guinea pig to the rabbit barn. Undaunted, they returned the following year with a more respectable specimen and quickly became more involved in the Weigh-Off, progressing from helping on the lifting team to setting up the Arena the night before. Fast forward 10 years and they’re Co-Chairmen! They give their free time to supporting not only the Giant Pumpkin, but the entire Fair. This includes numerous TV & newspaper interviews and manning the Education Tent. They received the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014 for their lifelong contributions to the Topsfield Fair.  

Sadly, Mary Ann passed November 27, 2018. She was the Director of the New England Giant Pumpkin Growers Association and editor for their newsletter. From amateur to expert, we will always remember her wonderful time and contributions to the Fair.
