Dog Racing
In 1950 the Topsfield Fair was the first fair in the county to introduce dog racing. It was an instant success! Dogs raced on a well groomed dirt racetrack against some of the leading dogs at the Wonderland Track in Revere. Each dog was designated their own trailer when traveling in order to care for them properly. Tommy Maren started as the director of the greyhound racing in 1951 and continued to be for just about 30 years. Dog racing ended in the 80’s after having it for 30 years.
