Goat
The American Dairy Goat Association sanctioned Goat Show takes place over two days at Topsfield Fair. The ADGA Open Senior and Junior Doe Shows start taking place on the second Sunday of the Fair. Goats from all over New England are brought in for this competition, vying for Junior and Senior Grand and Reserve Championships for each breed. Some of the most common breeds competing are the Lamancha, Saanen, Nubian, and Alpine goats.
The ADGA Open Junior Doe Show takes place on the second Monday of the Fair and pre-registered animals compete in seven breed categories.
There is a goat display in the Sheep Barn all during the Fair, where you can get up close and view the different breeds and personalities. It is a great opportunity to really see how sweet and personable these animals are. The competition aspect of the 4-H & Youth Dairy Goat Show gives 12 opportunities to win in the 4-H section, awarding a Senior, Junior, Novice, and Cloverbud winner for each of the 3 classes – fitting, showmanship, and judging. However, there are 13 other classes and 7 “Best in Show” awards that are included in General Classes.
