Water Follies
In the 1950’s acts like Sam Snyder’s Water Follies starred world champion divers, glamourous aqua ballerinas, and water comedian Eddie Rose, the “world’s greatest water comedian” performing in the “world’s largest portable pools and stage,” according to the 1954 Fair program.
The aqua excitement made an even bigger splash in later years, when the Fair would welcome Sam Howard’s Aqua Thrill Show featuring a “51-food Plunge into a Sponge.” Even in modern times, such high-diving acts thrill fairgoers—like when the Fair welcomes championship high-diver Dana Kunze, who dives from an 80-foot platform into a pool of water.
