Horse Racing was a popular event to watch in the early 1900’s. At Topsfield Fair, Horse Racing was especially popular during the 1920’s, and it carried through the early 1940’s. It attracted large crows, as most of the shows were packed to capacity filling the bleachers completely, and even had people surrounding the racetrack. People also enjoyed betting on the horses, which still stands true today, just not at the Fair. Horses would be put to the test to race around the track as fast as possible. Their talents, as well as their riders’ talents, never went unrecognized, as this event was the talk of the Fair early on.
